Max stood in the doorway of
their parent’s room, staring dubiously at his sister. She had clearly gotten into their mother’
closet and her make-up kit.
“Mom’s lipstick looks neater,”
he observed.
Mara waved him off. “That’s only ‘cause she prac’ised more.”
“Well, you need to prac’is a
lot,” replied Max. Mara glared at her
brother and teetered over to look at her reflection in their mother’s
full-length mirror.
“Hey! You’re wearing mom’s Jimmy shoes!” Max’s eyes
widened as he pointed to Mara’s feet. “You
remember what happened the last time you wore her Jimmy shoes?!”
“Pfft! It’s morphin’ time, and I can’t morph right
without the hat AND the shoes,” Mara replied as she dramatically pointed
to each. “Besides, that was a long time
ago, and I was authorized to do everything that I did.”
“You were authorized to break
her shoes?” Max didn’t believe his sister.
He remembered how mad their mom was when she found one of her shoes with
a broken heel.
“Well, not that part,” admitted Mara.
“I bet not any part,” muttered
Max. He walked over to join his sister
in front of the mirror. He looked from
his cowboy costume to his sister’s fancy dress-up. “Now we don’t match,” he complained. “How are we supposed to play the cowboy and
cowgirl game?”
Mara thought for a minute. She turned to her brother but just as she was
about to answer him, she heard their mother’s footsteps coming down the
hallway.
“Mom’s coming!” she exclaimed
in a panicked voice.
“Looks like you’re playing the ‘you’re
in trouble game.’ I’m not playing that
game!” said Max as he bolted for the door.
He ducked out just as their mother entered the room. Mara quickly stepped out of the shoes, but it
was too late.
“Oh, hi!” she greeted her
mother hopefully. That hope was
short-lived. She knew by the look on her
mother’s face that she wouldn’t be playing anymore games for a long time.

Nope. Not at all.
ReplyDeleteMax knew when to fold them! Poor Mara :(
ReplyDeleteI think mom needs to sit down with Mara and show her how to do dress up properly! And Mara would love the positive attention.

I don't think Mara would in too much trouble over wearing the shoes...or will she?

Love this!! Adorable
ReplyDeleteKids love dress up - I think Mom needs to keep some expendable clothes they can use when they want. Although the "Jimmy shoes" probably should wait a bit
